Box Score Albany, NY - The women's volleyball team hosted the Word of Life Huskies on Thursday evening, but not before they honored the team's three seniors!
Morgan Bohlke (Glenville, NY), Abby Kievit (Delhi, NY), and Ella Tangorra (Syracuse, NY) were all honored and given gifts by their teammates, coaches, and family before the game began.
The first set was a war on its own. The Huskies and Panthers battled back and forth with the Panthers eventually building a 5-point lead for themselves 18-13. However, the Huskies caught some momentum and tied it at 22. Senior Abby Kievit responded by recording three kills in the final moments to help the Panthers win 28-26.
In the second set, the Huskies started strong by jumping to a 13-7 lead. After that, it was more back and forth but the Panthers were unable to overcome the deficit and lost the set 25-15. The third set was pretty much the same as the Huskies jumped to an early lead that the Panthers were unable to overcome, losing by a near identical score of 25-16.
The fourth set was another tight battle. No team held more than a one point lead until the Panthers were up 15-13. The Huskies answered by going on a run to give themselves a 20-16 lead, to which the Panthers then caught fire and won the set 25-21 thanks to two big blocks by Kievit and a third by Morgan Bohlke.
The Panthers rode their momentum going into the final set by going up 4-1 early. However, the Huskies flipped the script and took the lead 11-5. After that, the back and forth continued and the Huskies ultimately won the set 15-8, taking the game 3-2.
It was an exhilarating game where we saw the last of the three seniors on their home court. The Panthers will travel up to Paul Smith's on Saturday to take on the Bobcats in their penultimate game of the regular season.
