Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Panthers Wrap Up Weekend

Albany, NY - The basketball teams traveled up to NHTI on Sunday to take on the Lynx in a conference doubleheader.

The women tipped off first at noon in a game where the Lynx only had five active girls, one of which had to leave the game due to injury.  The Panthers used that to their advantage and dominated the game, winning by a score of 64-40.  Freshman Ava Gaspie (Mechanicville, NY) dropped 20 points and 10 rebounds while fellow freshman Nadia Osmani (Cohoes, NY) set career highs with 13 points and 8 boards.

After the women's game, the men tipped off around 2pm. This time, the game was far more even.  In the first half, the Panthers built a decent lead for themselves about halfway through the period. But then the Lynx changed their gameplan by speeding up the pace, managing to cut the lead down to 3 points at the break.

The Panthers responded in the second half by slowing down the pace and making defensive adjustments, limiting the number of possessions. They got to the free throw line 27 times and held the Lynx to only 28% from the field.  The Panthers wound up victorious by a score of 63-56 behind 20 points from Alex Carrillo (Akron, OH). Logan Yohe (Delmar, NY) and Nathan Lynes (Miami, FL) combined for an additional 25 points while DJ Bridges (Hamsburg, PA) had another strong bench performance with 9 points.

The men will play next on Wednesday evening when they host the JV Monroe University team, but the women will have to wait until Saturday when they head up to Maine to take on Southern Maine Community College.
