Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Panthers Weekend Trip Recap

South Portland, ME - Both basketball teams traveled to Maine and New Hampshire over the weekend to take on Southern Maine and Great Bay!

On Saturday, the women tipped off first against the SMCC Seawolves that saw sophomore Samantha Howland (Whitehall, NY) make her season debut. Even though the team saw Howland's return, it wasn't enough to overcome the Seawolves defense.  Ava Gaspie (Mechanicville, NY) led the team with 10 points, but the team shot only 23% from the field and had 25 turnovers, ultimately losing the game 66-32.

After the women's game, the men tipped off in a much closer game. Alex Carrillo (Akron, OH) and Chase Tamashiro (Kane'ohe, HI) were the only ones in double digits, each with 10 points. The Panthers were down by only 2 at the break, but the Seawolves ran away with it in the second half to win 68-53.

On Sunday, both teams headed to Great Bay to take on the Herons in another doubleheader. The women tipped off first in a game that saw freshman Emily Bellinger (Albany, NY) score a career high 12 points while fellow freshmen Ava Gaspie and Akosua Adu-Gyamfi (Holden, MA) combined for an additional 21 points. Every single player for the Panthers scored, en route to beating the Herons 72-51.

Afterwards, the men tipped off in the closest game of the weekend. Alex Carrillo had a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds while fellow junior Logan Yohe (Delmar, NY) had a season high 16 points. The team moved the ball well, recording 19 assists on 24 made shots, but the Herons answered with similar stats by recording 19 assists on 25 shots. That one extra shot, in addition to 2 more free throws than the Panthers, was the difference maker as the Herons won a nail biter 68-62.

It was a rough weekend all around and the women will look to start a new win streak at home on Tuesday against SUNY Delhi while the men look to end their losing streak on Thursday evening when they host Paul Smith's.
