Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Panthers Head to Maine

Augusta, ME - The basketball teams took a trip up to Maine again this weekend to take on two YSCC rivals - the UMA Moose and CMCC Mustangs.

The women tipped off first against the UMA Moose around 4pm on Saturday. The short-handed Panthers had a slow start, only scoring 1 point in the first four minutes against 9 from the Moose. The Panthers cut the lead to as little as 4, but then the Moose went on a 23-2 run that extended into the second quarter to give themselves a 25-point lead. The Panthers could not get any momentum going, nor find a way to stop the Moose and would go on to lose the game 97-33.

After the blowout, the men's team took on the Moose around 6pm. It was a similar story - the Panthers struggled at first, then cut the lead to 4 points, which was answered by a 31-5 run by the Moose. The Panthers could not find the bottom of the net in the second half, shooting only 18% while the Moose capitalized and ran away with it to win 90-43.

The next day, the two teams traveled to CMCC. The women's team tipped off around noon in a game where their offensive struggles continued. They hit the first 3-pointer of the game, but then the Mustangs went on a 27-2 run and rode that momentum to the final buzzer, holding the Panthers to only 22% from the field.  The undefeated Mustangs went on to win 78-33.

After that, the men tipped off in what would be the closest game of the weekend. They were up 8-2 early, but the Mustangs answered with a 24-0 run to go up by 18.  However, the Panthers started crawling back and they cut the lead down to 7 at half. The Mustangs came out of the break firing, pushing their lead to as much as 25 points with about 6 minutes to go. The Panthers tried answering, cutting the lead to 14, but the final buzzer went off before they could finish the comeback.  The Mustangs would win 76-62.

The Panthers will look to regroup over Thanksgiving break as the women will play next at SUNY Adirondack on Wednesday 12/3 while the men will host Landmark College on Saturday 12/6.
