Albany, NY - Women's volleyball opened their season on Sunday afternoon against the Fashion Institute of Technology. 

It was a close battle between the Tigers and the Panthers right from the start.  Freshmen Grace O'Connell (Highland Falls, NY) and Jaylianna Pascarella (Syracuse, NY) made their first collegiate starts and helped the team by playing good defense and setting each other up.  The Tigers took an early lead that the Panthers kept dwindling down to a point or two.  In the final minutes of the first set, the Tigers however ran away with it to win the set 25-18 to take a 1-0 lead.  

The second set was again a very close set.  The Panthers started hot by taking an early 5-1 lead, but the Tigers managed to crawl their way back.  Then it was a constant back and forth until the game was tied at 22 all.  The Tigers then once again finished strong to take the second set for a 2-0 lead. 

Senior Kathryn Braun (Guilderland, NY) played very well throughout the day, recording multiple digs, several assists, as well as some kills!  The third set was more of the same overall, with the Tigers maintaining a small lead throughout the rest of the game, ultimately winning 25-19 to go on to win the match. 

Despite the loss, it was a good first game for the Panthers.  The game strengthened team chemistry as they look forward to their next match on Tuesday evening when they host conference rival Paul Smith's College at 6pm.
