After a scoreless 84 minutes of play in a battle of unbeatens in the Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference matchup between ACPHS and Berkeley College,
Zach Hecox (New Hartford, NY, New Hartford) scored the game-winning goal and the Panthers added an insurance goal in the final minute of play, as ACPHS defeated the Knights by a score of 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.
In a windy atmosphere in Albany, the first half saw both teams put good shots on net, but neither team was able to find the back of the net. Late in the game, ACPHS goalie
Adam Hoye-Simek (Broadalbin, NY, Broadalbin-Perth) sent the ball down the field and found
Steve Sullivan (Broadalbin, NY, Broadalbin-Perth) who fired a shot on net that was saved by the Berkeley goalie. The rebound went to Hecox who slipped the ball past into an open net for his sixth goal of the season.
In the game's final minute,
Steve Chikwem (Dallas, TX, Nigeria) outraced the Berkeley defense, centered it to
Colin Owczarzak (Cheektowaga, NY, Saint Francis) who found
Ryan Michonski (Southwick, MA, Southwick-Tolland) who scored for ACPHS.
Hoye-Simek was outstanding in net, making 10 saves for his third shutout of the season. ACPHS improves to 5-0 in HVMAC play and 9-3 overall.
