Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Soccer Wears Pink & Gold

Albany, NY - The soccer teams took on conference rival Southern Maine Community College on Saturday afternoon in a series of games to raise awareness.

The women, who wore pink jerseys to support breast cancer awareness, kicked off first at 1:30pm.  The Seawolves scored twice within the first sixteen minutes to build an early 2-0 lead. After that, the Panthers flipped a switch and held them to one shot the rest of the half.  Freshman sensation Brooke Coon (Stillwater, NY) continued her monster season and found the back of the net to cut into the Seawolves lead.  In the second half, the Panthers continued to play good defense, holding the Seawolves scoreless.  With about thirteen minutes to go, Coon weaved through the defense and fired a deep strike for the game tying goal.  Neither team could score again as the game wound up in a 2-2 tie.

Shortly after the women, the men kicked off wearing gold socks to support childhood cancer awareness in a similarly competitive game.  The Seawolves scored just minutes into the game, which was answered by senior Ian Rathbun (Queensbury, NY) off a beautiful pass from freshman Max Sheehan (Clifton Park, NY) to tie the game at 1 apiece.  The second half was filled with a physical back and forth as both teams got yellow cards and took nearly the same amount of shots.  The difference was that the Seawolves were able to score with about ten minutes left that wound up being the game winning shot to win 2-1.

The women will play their final regular season game on Sunday 10/18 while the men will play against conference opponent York tomorrow for their senior night!
