Auburn, ME - The soccer teams head all the way up to Maine on Sunday to take on our conference opponent Central Maine Community College.
The women kicked off first at noon in a game where freshman Brooke Coon (Stillwater, NY) shined. Only 6 minutes into the game she scored her third goal of the season to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. The Mustangs answered by scoring three unanswered goals to claim a 3-1 lead. However, Coon setup Emma Ye (Ballston Spa, NY) for her first goal of the season, then the freshman found the back of the net again to tie the game before halftime at 3-3.
The Mustangs' halftime adjustments proved successful as they scored about twelve minutes into the half to retake the lead. The Panthers tried riding Coon's momentum, but were unable to answer and wound up losing the game 4-3.
After the women's game, the men kicked off against the Mustangs. In the first half, the Panthers were only able to get off three shots, a number which Central Maine more than tripled. However, ACPHS held their own until the final minute of the first half when the Mustangs were able to get on the board.
In the second half, the Mustangs were able to capitalize on a free kick to extend their lead to 2-0. Now in comeback mode, Zachary Bertholet (Syracuse, UT) scored his first career collegiate goal to cut into the lead. The Panthers were unable to score again as 2-1 became the final score.
Both soccer teams will have some time to rest up after a busy weekend as they look forward to their next game on Wednesday 10/7 for a conference doubleheader at Word of Life.
