Kyle Caradori (Waterford, NY, Waterford) earned his first career hat trick to lead the ACPHS men's soccer team to a 6-2 victory over Cooper Union on Sunday afternoon. With the victory, the Panthers finish the regular season at 10-4, including a perfect 6-0 in the Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference, clinching the school's first ever HVMAC regular season championship.
With the number one seed on the line, ACPHS came out strong as
Zach Hecox (New Hartford, NY, New Hartford) continued his strong play, scoring a goal just over one minute into the game. Five minutes later, the Panthers were awarded a corner kick.
Steve Chikwem (Dallas, TX, Nigeria) took the kick and found Caradori who headed the ball into the back of the net. ACPHS took its 2-0 lead into halftime.
At the four minute mark of the second half, Caradori again scored off of a corner kick, as
Colin Owczarzak (Cheektowaga, NY, Saint Francis) earned the assist. After Cooper Union scored on a penalty kick to make the score 3-1, Chikwem, the team's leading goal scorer, added another one to increase the lead. Cooper scored again to bring the score to 4-2, but two more goals were scored by ACPHS, one by Hecox and another by Caradori to account for the final score.
Although the ACPHS men's soccer team won the postseason tournament HVMAC championship in both 2008 and 2009, this was the program's first ever regular season title as the Panthers outscored their conference opponents 28-4 in the six games.
