Albany, NY - The men's soccer team hosted the NHTI Lynx on Saturday afternoon in a very rainy game.
No matter though, the Panthers came out ready to play. Senior Ian Rathbun (Saratoga Springs, NY) was especially hot, scoring a hat trick in the first half off assists from freshmen Cole Vredenburgh (Delhi, NY) and junior Max Sheehan (Clifton Park, NY). Senior Padraig Gallagher (Poughkeepsie, NY) added to the Panthers' monster first half by scoring his first collegiate goal to give the Panthers a 4-1 lead at the break.
In the second half, it was Sheehan who popped off. Already with an assist, he found the back of the net for not one, but two goals - his first two as a collegiate player. Gallagher assisted on the first of Sheehan's goals while Rathbun scored his fourth of the night with about fifteen minutes to go.
The Panthers wound up winning the game 7-2, their first of the season. Rathbun's 4 goals brings his total to 10 on the year, and 42 for his career. He's itching closer to the record of 49.
The boys will be back in action on Wednesday evening when they head up to Paul Smith's College for a conference showdown in a doubleheader with the women's team.
