The ACPHS women's basketball team stormed out of the gates on Tuesday night to take a commanding 16-0 lead after just three minutes and never looked back as they defeated Bard College by a score of 80-32 on Tuesday night.
Alex Oaks (Oaks Corners, NY, Midlakes), who scored eight points in the opening run to start the game, finished with 13 points, as did
Kelly VanValkenburgh (Hunter, NY, Colonie), and
Katie McCormack (Proctor, VT, Proctor). McCormack, the team's leading rebounder so far on the young season, again led the team with eight boards, while VanValkenburgh grabbed four rebounds and dished out four assists.
At halftime, the Panthers were shooting a sizzling 56% from the field as they took a 40-18 lead into the break. The second half proved to be more of the same, as ACPHS shot 52% and again scored an even 40 points in the second 20 minutes of the game.
Alyson Johnson (Malone, NY, Franklin Academy) (11 points) and
Kelsey Johnson (Malone, NY, Franklin Academy) (10 points) also reached double-figures in points for the Panthers while
Sarah Johnson (Felts Mills, NY, Carthage) and
Cassie White (Hermon, ME, Hermon) each scored eight points. Latiqua Williams led Bard with eight points and six rebounds.
ACPHS returns to action on Saturday as they travel to Rochester Institute of Technology for a tournament. The Panthers will open the tournament by facing perennial Liberty League power St. Lawrence at 3:00 PM on Saturday.
