After falling to Culinary Institute of America in the regular season in 2008 and 2009, the Panthers exacted some revenge as ACPHS won by a score of 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Chris Wasacz (Schuylerville, NY, Schuylerville) and
Zach Hecox (New Hartford, NY, New Hartford) each scored goals as the Panthers improved to 4-1 on the season and 1-0 in the Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference standings.
ACPHS opened the scoring in the 15th minute as the Panthers were awarded a corner kick which
Steve Chikwem (Dallas, TX, Nigeria) perfectly placed to the far post for a waiting Wasacz who beat the CIA keeper. The rest of the first half and into the second half was very evenly played as both teams had scoring opportunities but ACPHS goalie
Adam Hoye-Simek (Broadalbin, NY, Broadalbin-Perth) and CIA keeper Dan Moreno kept both offenses at bay.
With 23 minutes remaining in the game, Chikwem added his second assist of the game as he found a streaking Hecox who blasted the ball into the right corner of the goal to give ACPHS a cushion.
Hoye-Simek made six saves in net for his third shutout of the season, while Moreno made eight saves for the Steels.
