Kelly VanValkenburgh (Hunter, NY, Colonie) scored 20 points to lead four Panthers in double-figures as the ACPHS women's basketball team defeated SUNY Delhi by a score of 66-49 on Monday afternoon.
In what was a tight first half, the Broncos connected on a three-point basket to pull within 30-24 with four minutes to play in the opening stanza, but ACPHS went on a 9-1 run to end the half, led by four points from
Amber Batzold (East Greenbush, NY, Columbia), playing in her first game of the season and a three-point shot from VanValkenburgh.
The Panthers started to pull away in the second half as they clamped down on SUNY Delhi, holding the host team to 17% shooting from the field.
Alex Oaks (Oaks Corners, NY, Midlakes) scored 12 points while
Kelsey Johnson (Malone, NY, Franklin Academy) chipped in with 11 points and seven assists. Batzold also reached double-figures in points, scoring 10 in her season debut.
The Panthers hit the road on Thursday in their second Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference game of the season, as they travel to the College of New Rochelle.
