Zach Hecox (New Hartford, NY, New Hartford) and Chris Wasacz (Schuylerville, NY, Schuylerville) each scored a goal as the ACPHS men's soccer team defeated Cooper Union by a score of 2-0 on Saturday. With the victory, the Panthers clinch the regular season championship and will host an HVMAC semifinal game on Saturday at the College of St. Rose Plumeri Sports Complex.

In what was an even game for the majority of the first half, ACPHS was able to get on the scoreboard at the 36th minute of the first half as Alessandro Macchiarelli (Broadalbin, NY, Broadalbin-Perth) was able to find Hecox who beat the Cooper Union goalkeeper at the far side of the goal. ACPHS took the lead into halftime as each team had three shots on goal in the opening 45 minutes.

In the second half, the Panthers began to take control of the game as they were able to put constant pressure on Cooper Union for the majority of the half. With just three minutes remaining in the game, Hecox found Wasacz who took a shot that hit the inside of the goal post and crossed the line for the goal.

Adam Hoye-Simek (Broadalbin, NY, Broadalbin-Perth) earned the shutout in goal by making four saves.
