BOX SCORE
Alex Oaks (Oaks Corners, NY, Midlakes) scored 14 points and
Megan Serley (Oriskany, NY, Oriskany) added 12 points as the ACPHS women's basketball team dominated right from the opening tip and earned a 66-28 home victory over the College of St. Joseph (VT) in the opening game of the 2011-12 season on Tuesday night.
Just six minutes into the game, ACPHS built a 9-0 lead after
Kelsey Johnson (Malone, NY, Franklin Academy) scored on a layup. In the first half, Oaks scored 12 points as she didn't miss any of her six shot attempts, to lead all scorers. Serley, who missed all of the 2010-11 season after recovering from a knee injury, contributed seven points in the opening 20 minutes to give the Panthers a commanding 33-14 halftime lead. While ACPHS only connected on 35% from the field, the Panthers stifling defense held the Saints to just three field goals in the half.
In the second half it was more of the same as ACPHS never was threatened as they cruised to the win.
Taylor Sullivan (Troy, NY, Hoosic Valley) and
Michelle Staiger (Binghamton, NY, Chenango Forks) each added nine points while Sullivan added eight rebounds as the Panthers have a week off before returning to face off against Bard College on November 15.
