Panthers Cruise to Victory in 2011 Opener

The ACPHS women's soccer team started off the 2011 season on fire, scoring seven first half goals as the Panthers rolled to an 8-1 victory over SUNY Delhi in a game that was played at Union College in Schenectady, NY.

Just over three minutes into the game, Frances Ripepi (Amsterdam, NY, Amsterdam) struck first for the Panthers, blasting a perfectly placed shot, off an assist from Sarah Cope (Broadalbin, NY, Broadalbin-Perth), past the Broncos' goalkeeper from about 20 yards out to give ACPHS a 1-0 lead. Amanda White (Troy, NY, Hoosic Valley) struck next for ACPHS, scoring her first goal of the season just four minutes later on an assist from Colleen Quartararo (Berkshire, NY, Newark Valley).

At the 30 minute mark, the leading scorer for ACPHS in 2010, Alexa Schooley (Auburn, NY, Union Springs), scored to give ACPHS a 3-0 lead and was followed just two minutes later as Ripepi scored her second goal of the half. Cope added two goals and Ripepi scored again for her hat trick as the Panthers took a commanding 7-0 lead into halftime.

Schooley struck again three minutes into the second half to complete the scoring for ACPHS and Delhi added a late goal from Katlyn Sharalt to prevent the shutout. Alexandra Weston (Chaumont, NY, Lyme Central) made four saves in net for her first victory of the season.

ACPHS has a few days off before traveling to New Hampshire Technical Institute's tournament on Saturday and Sunday. The Panthers face off against UMaine-Augusta on Saturday to open the weekend's games.
