Women's Basketball Advances to Moravian College Tournament Championship

BOX SCORE

In the opening round of the Moravian College Starter's Winter Classic, the ACPHS women's basketball team defeated Delaware Valley College by a score of 49-38 to advance to the championship game. On Tuesday, the Panthers will face off against Moravian College at 5:30 PM with the tournament title at stake.

Kelsey Johnson and Alyson Johnson each scored 11 points while Taylor Sullivan was the third ACPHS player in double-figures, scoring 10 points.

"We did a tremendous job on the defensive end as well as in rebounding," said Head Coach Dan McGraw. "It was an outstanding team effort."

After Delaware Valley scored the opening five points of the game, ACPHS went on a 14-0 run over the next couple of minutes to take an early lead that they would hold for the remainder of the game. Despite committing 25 turnovers, the Panthers limited the Aggies to just 22.8% shooting from the field, while also holding a 55-34 advantage in the rebounding total for the game. Alyson Johnson grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds for ACPHS and also swatted away six shots on the defensive end.

Moravian College earned a victory over Medgar Evers College in the opening game of the tournament, setting up the championship game between ACPHS and Moravian. The teams last faced off in 2006 in the same tournament when Moravian earned a 93-44 victory over the Panthers.
