ACPHS Falls in Final Seconds to St. Joseph's (NY)

BOX SCORE

The ACPHS women's basketball team stormed out to a 14-point halftime lead against Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference rival St. Joseph's (NY), but couldn't hold on as the Panther fell by a score of 59-57 on Saturday night. With the loss, ACPHS goes to 11-8 on the season and finishes the HVWAC regular season with a 4-1 record.

The first half belonged to the Panthers and especially Alyson Johnson, as the reigning HVWAC Player of the Week scored 17 points in the opening 20 minutes as ACPHS opened up a big lead. Johnson's third three-point basket of the half put the Panthers up 38-20 and ACPHS took a 39-25 lead into the break.

Unfortunately for ACPHS, the final 20 minutes belonged to the Bears as the Panthers struggled to score, putting up just 18 points in the second half while shooting just 24% from the field. Kelsey Johnson, who led all scorers with 24 points, contributed 15 of the team's 18 second-half points.

Down by five points in the closing seconds, Kelsey Johnson hit a three-point basket to pull ACPHS to within two points and then the Panthers had a shot with under 15 seconds to play, but were unable to connect.

The Panthers finish up the regular-season on Tuesday as they host Hartwick College as seniors Alex Oaks and Katie McCormack will be honored in a pregrame ceremony. ACPHS will host the HVWAC Tournament on February 18th and 19th as the number two seed.
