Panthers Defeat Sage, Advance to Tournament Championship

BOX SCORE

Sarah Cope scored the game-winning goal early in the second half as the ACPHS women's soccer team held on for a thrilling 3-2 victory over Sage College in the opening round of the Alfred University Invitational in Alfred, NY. With the victory, the Panthers advance to Sunday's championship game as they take on Alfred University at 6:00 PM.

In the game's opening minutes, goals were coming at a fast and furious pace as Sage opened the scoring at the four minute mark, but ACPHS answered as Frances Ripepi scored just 30 seconds later to even the score. The Gators took the lead again at the seven minute mark before both teams started to settle down. After a back and forth half, Alexa Schooley, the Panthers' leading scorer in the 2011 season, scored her first goal of the season to tie the score at two.

Cope, who gave fits to Sage all night long with her speed, scored the final goal of the game on a breakaway. Alexandra Weston made two saves in net for ACPHS.
