Albany, N.Y. – The Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences men's soccer team (7-5) dropped its second match in a row Thursday afternoon, falling 3-1 to visiting Hudson Valley Community College (8-2-1) in its regular season home finale at the ACPHS Soccer Field. Freshman midfielder
Ebenezer Eshun (Watervliet, N.Y.) scored late in the match for the Panthers.
The Vikings jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead, scoring in the third minute as Panthers senior goalkeeper
Adam Hoye-Simek (Broadalbin, N.Y.) stopped a Miguel Arauz shot but could not contain the rebound, which was tapped home by Mitch Haas. HVCC controlled much of the first half action, out-shooting ACPHS 15-3 and taking a 1-0 lead into halftime.
HVCC added an insurance goal when Giacomo Giglio scored from 11 yards out following a corner kick in the 56
th minute and extended its lead to 3-0 on an Arauz goal, assisted by Michael Chiudina, in the 69
th minute.
The Panthers rallied to within 3-1 as Eshun scored off a pass from senior midfielder
Steve Sullivan (Broadalbin, N.Y.) in the 86
th minute but could get no closer before the final whistle sounded. ACPHS out-shot HVCC 13-8 in the second half.
Hoye-Simek made five saves for the Panthers while Alec Volans stopped four shots for the Vikings. ACPHS concludes the regular season at Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Culinary Institute of America on Saturday, October 19. Kickoff in Hyde Park, N.Y. is set for 1:00 pm. A win would give the Panthers the right to host a HVIAC semifinal match Saturday, October 27.
