Women's Basketball Advances to HVWAC Championship

BOX SCORE

The ACPHS women's basketball team (16-4) dominated the College of New Rochelle from start to finish as the Panthers came away with an 84-43 victory on Saturday evening to advance to the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference Championship game for the fourth straight season, all against St. Joeph's (NY). After losing the title in 2010, the Panthers will be looking for their third straight championship, winning in 2011 and 2012.

From the opening tip, ACPHS came out firing on all cylinders, especially Alyson Johnson, the two-time defending HVWAC Tournament Most Valuable Player. The senior scored 13 points in the opening 20 minutes (17 points for the game) on five-for-seven shooting from the field, including connecting on three three-point baskets. Alexa Schooley was a perfect five-for-five in the first half, as the Panthers shot a sizzling 68% to take a 48-16 lead into the break.

The second half was more of the same as ACPHS continued to shoot the lights out and they never allowed the Blue Angels to make a run. Johnson added a game-high eight assists for the Panthers, while Taylor Sullivan scored 17 points and pulled down six rebounds. Schooley finished with 13 points and a game-high seven rebounds, Kelsey Johnson scored 12 points, while Megan Serley chipped in with 10 points.
