BOX SCORE
After two straight years of dominating victories in the conference championship game, the ACPHS women's basketball team lost to St. Joseph's (NY) in the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference finals on Sunday evening.
Kelsey Johnson scored a game-high 18 points and
Alexa Schooley had 12 points and 14 rebounds, but it wasn't enough as the Panthers were outscored 34-17 in the second half.
ACPHS took an early lead, thanks to some hot shooting from Johnson who had eight early points to help the Panthers to an early eight-point lead. The Panthers were able to hold the lead for the majority of the first half and took a 26-23 lead into halftime as they were seeking their third straight championship.
The second half proved to be a struggle as ACPHS had 11 turnovers in the half, and shot just 16% from the field as St. Joseph's used their pressure defense to force the Panthers into a number of mistakes and forced shots. Also, starting point guard
Megan Serley went down with an injury early in the second half which proved to be too big of a mountain for the Panthers to climb.
With the loss, ACPHS falls to 16-5 on the season as they head into the United States Collegiate Athletic Association National Tournament next week in Pennsylvania.
