The ACPHS women's basketball team defeated Sage College by a score of 66-59 on Tuesday night as the Panthers earned a sweep over the Gators in 2012-2013, defeating their New Scotland Avenue neighbors in women's basketball, men's basketball, and women's soccer.
After quickly falling behind 6-0 to start the game, the Panthers bounced back and used some hot shooting from the free throw line (15-17 in the first half), to take a 36-22 lead into halftime.
Alyson Johnson, who finished with a game-high 16 points, contributed 10 points in the half to help spark the ACPHS offense.
Taylor Sullivan also had a strong start, with eight points and nine rebounds in the first 20 minutes.
Sage made a furious comeback to start the second half, and they evened the score at 50 with just over six minutes remaining in the game. Despite battling foul trouble, Sullivan, who finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds, made some key baskets late in the game to help ACPHS pull away in the final minutes.
Alexa Schooley (13 points and 13 rebounds) and
Kelsey Johnson (12 points and 10 rebounds), both had double-doubles for ACPHS who improved to 14-3 on the season. The Panthers clinched the victory with some sizzling shooting from the charity stripe, finishing 27-32 (84%) from the free throw line.
The Panthers return to action on Thursday evening as they host North Country Community College at 7 pm.
