Panthers Top St. Joseph’s in Overtime

Box Score ALBANY – Rebecca Foote's six point overtime effort led ACPHS to a 63-57 win over St. Joseph's (VT) Sunday afternoon.

Foote led the Panthers with 15 points while grabbing seven boards in a game that saw nine ties. Dannie Griffin recorded the team's only double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds. ACPHS's (4-3) Katie Walker and Emma Webster each chipped in 12 points.

Jacobie Maupin-Alexander gave a double-double effort for the Fighting Saints with 16 points and 17 boards. St. Joseph's (6-2) Alexis Brooks recorded her own double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Alayna Landolfo gave a 15 point effort off the bench with a game-high three treys.

St. Joseph's went on a 13-6 run in the first quarter with five points from Maupin-Alexander. ACPHS responded with a Griffin layup and a pair of free throws from Webster. After back-and-forth action for the majority of the second quarter, Griffin tied the game 24-24 with a jumper with 2:56 remaining in the half. The Panthers took their first lead of the game when Walker nailed a jumper with 53 seconds on the board to put ACP up 28-26 going into halftime.

In the second half, ACPHS took its biggest lead of the game with 4:25 remaining in the third quarter when Foote hit a pair of free throws to go up 38-28. Landolfo responded with eight unanswered points to bring the Fighting Saint within one to end the third quarter 38-37.

With 1:37 remaining in regulation, Maupin-Alexander hit a jumper to put St. Joseph's up 49-47. Walker and Maupin-Alexander exchanged free throws to make it 50-48 with under a minute to go. With 34 seconds left to go, Griffin knocked down a pair of free throws to tie the game for ACP and force overtime.

ACPHS scored on five straight possessions in overtime to go on a 10-7 run to go up on St. Joseph's, and win the game.

The Panthers play Bard College on Dec. 7 at home at 8 p.m. in non-conference action.
