Senior Rochelle Whitton (Hermon, NY / Hermon-De Kalb)scored 16 points and added six steals as the Panthers registered a 69-43 over SUNY Delhi. ACPHS improves to 13-3 on the year, while SUNY Delhi drops to 6-16.
The first half was all Panthers, as they built a 23-point lead going into the break. Both teams came out sluggish, with ACPHS seeing themselves down three four minutes into the game. The Panther's press defense would then go to work, forcing the Broncos into 22 turnovers in the half. Whitton led ACPHS with five steals at that point, adding eight points to lead all scorers. Freshman Ayla Thompson (Lake Placid, NY / Lake Placid) had a huge contribution in the first, scoring seven and adding six rebounds off the bench. The Panthers scored 21 of their 40 points in the first half off of turnovers in the half, which was the big difference between the two teams.
The Panthers were able to keep the Broncos at bay in the second half, never letting their lead slip below 16. Whitton's 16 was a game-high, while graduate student Kristen McKeel (Massena, NY / Massena Central) added 10 points and five assists off the bench. Five other Panthers had at least six points, with Morgan Esperti (Charlton, NY / Burnt Hills) chipping in four assists and four steals.
ACPHS will faces off with second place College of New Rochelle tomorrow at 1pm in Albany for the HVIAC regular season title. SUNY Delhi will travel to Vaughn on Sunday, February 7th for their next game.
