Box Score
The ACPHS men followed suit with the Lady Panthers, pulling out the second 1-0 victory of the day of over the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. The Panthers get their first win of the 2016 HVIAC Season, moving to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the league. With the loss, SUNY-ESF falls to 3-1 overall and also 1-1 in the league.

The Panthers had a great chance to open the scoring in just the 2nd minute when junior Mina Girgis (Canyon Country, CA / John Burroughs HS) sent a bouncing ball past the ESF defense for senior Zak Giorgi (Whitesboro, NY / Whitesboro High School) to run after. With the keeper coming out, Giorgi struck the ball on the half-volley just outside of the box but could not get his effort on target.

The Mighty Oaks came back with two chances of their own in back-to-back minutes early on. Forward Joseph Kulikowski got in on goal and attempted to chip junior goalkeeper Matt Houlihan (Levittown, NY / Kellenberg Memorial High School). His effort glanced off of Houlihan's shoulder a fell kindly to midfielder Joe Marino, but he could not set his feet right and the ball deflected off him out for a goal kick. The next minute, defender George Beinetti sent a great long ball in for Kulikowski that he took down well. Kulikowski could not get much on his shot though, and Houlihan saved easily.

The next chance came for ACPHS in the 28th minute, with Girgis going for a spectacular overhead kick off a high looping cross. He connected with it well, but it glanced of the inside of the post and rolled across the face of goal and was cleared. Just four minutes later, ACPHS finally found their opener through Giorgi's second goal of the season. A lot of credit has to go to junior Kyle Jenkins (Holbrook, NY / Sachem East High School), who used some very good footwork to keep possession and find freshman Austin Myers (Morrisonville, NY / Saranac High) down the left wing. Austin Myers whipped a low cross to the back post that Giorgi met with a diving header, drilling it into the back of the net.

With the Panthers up 1-0 in the 2nd half, the game seemed to close up for both sides. Each team fought hard in the midfield, but could not find their passes in the final third. The Panthers were happy to get out with a 1-0 win as they did not have a shot attempt in the whole 2nd half. On the game, SUNY-ESF outshot the Panthers 23-6 and 6-2 on goal. Houlihan made all six saves and is now 2-3 overall on the season.

Next up for the Panthers is a date with Davis College this Wednesday, September 21st at 4pm in Johnson City, NY. SUNY-ESF looks to rebound today, September 18th at the Culinary Institute at 1pm.
