Box Score ACPHS Women's Soccer defeated Pratt Institute 3-0 on Sunday in their final HVIAC matchup of the year. With the victory, the Panthers moved to 9-3-1 overall and 3-1-0 in the conference, while Pratt fell to 3-6-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the HVIAC.
Albany grabbed the lead just 37 seconds into the contest, after junior forward
Erin Tersegno (Webster, NY / Webster Thomas) drove up the field from kickoff and slid a perfectly-weighted pass to fellow junior
Katie Benson (Clifton Park, NY / Shenendehowa). Benson's effort on goal was blocked well by a Cannoneer defender but fell right to the feet of sophomore
Sydney Rule (Ballston Spa, NY / Ballston Spa). Rule thumped the ball into the vacated net for her third goal of the year and ACPHS was off and running.
The Panthers bossed the game from there on out, attempting 32 total shots compared to just six for Pratt. Benson used some quick feet to grab her team-leading 25
th goal off an assist from Rule in the 56
th minute for the Panther's second goal, while Tersegno wrapped up the scoring in the 83
rd minute with her 11
th goal of the year. Sophomore
Sally Slowinski (Colrain, MA / Mohawk Trail) made two saves in the win to push her record to 7-1 on the year.
The Panthers record of 3-1-1 was good enough for a second place finish in the HVIAC, which means they will take on the third-place Cannoneers once again in the conference tournament on Saturday, October 28
th. ACPHS will have a midweek tune-up for the tournament against Bard College on Wednesday, October 24
th at 7pm.
