ACPHS Women's Soccer dropped their midweek contest with NCAA foe Bard College 4-0. With the loss, the Panthers head into the post season with a record of 9-4-1, while the Raptors improved to 8-8-0.
The Panthers got off to a rough start and were never able to come back in this one, conceding to Bard just 52 seconds into the game. Bard's Avalon Qian sprinted up the right flank and curled a ball around two Panther defenders that found Raptor forward Giuliana Scanni. Scanni buried her right-footed effort into the lower-left corner, and the Raptors never looked back. Three minutes later, Bard's Caroline Gluck drove up the right side once again, this time crossing the ball across the face of goal to Raptor midfielder Carla Sanchez. Sanchez finished just below the crossbar for her first goal of the year and the Panthers were quickly down 2-0.
Qian scored the game's final two goals in the 28
th and 69
th minutes to bring her yearly total to ten. Sophomore
Sally Slowinski (Colrain, MA / Mohawk Trail) was under fire all night, facing 13 shots on goal and saving nine of them in only her second loss of the season. On the offensive end, the Panthers were not able to test Bard goalie Tessa Greenhalgh, attempting five shots but putting none of them on target.
The silver lining of the day was the celebration of the Panthers' two senior players:
Kennedy Rives (Austin, TX / Shenedehowa) and
Angela Ward (Herkimer, NY / Herkimer High). The two team leaders have shown excellence both on and off the field, and the athletic staff thanked them last night for their time at ACPHS.
The Panthers begin postseason play this Saturday, when they take on Pratt Institute in the HVIAC semi-finals in Albany. The winner of that matchup will face either SUNY-ESF or King's College in the conference championship game the following day.
