Box Score ACPHS Men's Soccer tied the College of New Rochelle Blue Angels 3-3 on Wednesday after 110 minutes of play. The Panthers are now 3-1-1 in the HVIAC and 6-4-1 overall, while New Rochelle moved to 2-0-1 in the league and 2-3-1 overall.
ACPHS opened up the scoring in the 13
th minute with the first shot taken by either team. Junior
Bryce Berchulski (Somersworth, NH / Somersworth High School) clipped a ball over the Blue Angel defense for sophomore
Austin Myers (Morrisonville, NY / Saranac High) to run after that was misjudged by CNR keeper Elijah Robinson. Myers touched the ball around Robinson and passed it into the vacated net for his 2
nd goal of the year.
The rest of the half was all Blue Angels, as they generated chance after chance against the Panther defense. Rochelle forward Cesar Rodriguez was their danger man, having two spots where he was alone against Albany senior keeper
Matt Houlihan (Levittown, NY / Kellenberg Memorial High School) but could not capitalize due to Houlihan's saves. Albany gained a 2-0 advantage in the closing seconds of the first half when sophomore
Noah Keith (Rotterdam, NY / CBA) scored off of a long free kick from Houlihan, and would take that advantage into the break.
The Blue Angels cut the Panther lead to 1 just 37 seconds into the 2
nd half thanks to a long strike from Heber Maldonado, but Albany got it back to two 15 minutes later. Junior
Reid LaPlante (Chateaugay, NY / Chateaugay Central High School) dribbled into the box but was fouled before he could get a shot away. Senior
Mina Girgis (Canyon Country, CA / John Burroughs HS) took the resulting penalty and deposited it into the lower-left corner of the goal to give Albany a 3-1 lead.
CNR came roaring back in the final ten minutes to with goals from Xavier Cruzata and Rodriguez, which sent the game into overtime. IN the extra period, Houlihan proved the hero of the game when he saved a penalty shot which would have gave New Rochelle the win. Both teams created chances in the extra periods, but neither could find a break through. Houlihan made 9 saves during the match and two across the two overtimes.
ACPHS has a long layoff before they travel to Berkeley College on Saturday, October 14
th at 8pm.
