ACPHS netted five goals in the 2
nd half, including three from senior forward
Mina Girgis (Canyon Country, CA / John Burroughs HS), on their way to a 7-0 rout of the Vaughn College Warriors. The win was the Panthers' first in conference play, moving them to 1-1 in the HVIAC and 3-3 overall. The Warriors fell to 2-1 in both conference and overall play.
The game started slow for both teams, with neither squad particularly having any advantage for the opening 20 minutes. That all changed in the 26
th minute, when sophomore
Austin Myers (Morrisonville, NY / Saranac High) latched on to a long clearance and raced behind the Warrior defense. He sent a left-footed cross straight to freshman
Zachary Lanoue (Troy, NY / Averill Park High School), who took a first time volley that rocketed past Vaughn keeper John Vizhnay.
Lanoue was back at it again just five minutes later when, trapped by the corner flag, he used a combination of precise skill moves to get away from his man and fizz a low ball across the face of goal. Sophomore
Dylan Davie (Chittenango, NY / Chittenango) tapped in the cross for his first goal of the year, and the Panthers took a 2-0 lead into the half.
The 2
nd half started similarly to the first, until Girgis made his way onto the field after an injury to Lanoue. Girgis' game was one he'll remember for quite some time, having so much impact in such a short time on the field. His entire day can be summed up in one sentence: 61:07, Girgis is subbed on; 61:20, goal; 63:47, goal; 65:32, goal; 68:48, Girgis is subbed off. With his incredible four-minute hat trick, the senior raised his goal tally for the year to 8, which lead all Panthers.
Goals from freshmen
Justin Orlando (Burnt HIlls, NY / Burnt Hills Ballston Lake High School) and
Lucas Teodoro (West Hartford, CT / Conard High School) wrapped up the scoring for ACPHS, who were aided by several injuries to Vaughn players. Senior goalkeeper
Matt Houlihan (Levittown, NY / Kellenberg Memorial High School) only had to make one save, as the Warriors only took eight total shots.
The Panthers resume action this Tuesday, September 26
th, when they take on Utica College at 7pm on ACPHS Field.
