Women's Basketball Tripped Up By Bard

The ACPHS Women's Basketball Team dropped their third straight game to start the season on Tuesday, falling to the Bard College Raptors 72-49. This was Bard's first game of 2018, so they are now 1-0.

Albany started well in this one, jumping out to an 8-3 lead at the 5:36 mark of the first quarter thanks to two early buckets from freshman guard Clare Snell (Potsdam, NY / Parishville Hopkinton). Snell finished the game with 16 points, and is now tied for the team lead averaging 12 ppg. The Raptors closed the quarter on a 13-5 run though, and went into the 2nd quarter up 16-11.

Albany once again came out hot in the opening minutes, cutting the Bard lead to two after a layup by sophomore forward Sarah Snyder (Moriah, NY / Moriah), who some much-needed production from the bench after recovering from an early-season injury. This was the closest Albany would get for the rest of the contest, as Bard went in to the half up 14 and ended up winning by 33.

For Bard, it was Christina Kiser who filled up the stat sheet, finishing with a final line of 29 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, five steals, and two blocks. Just behind her was Katie Esposito, who dropped 21 points on 10 of 14 shooting. As a team, the Raptors only shot 43.3% (26-60), but outrebounded the Panthers 45 to 34. The telling stat of the game was the turnovers, and what each of the teams did with their extra possessions. Both squads recorded 19 turnovers, but the Raptors scored 25 points off of the one's they forced, while ACPHS only managed four.

For ACPHS, junior guard Emma Webster (Cadyville, NY / Saranac High) finished second on the team in scoring with 11 points, while she also added three steals. Junior forward Olivia Parameter (Waddington, NY / Madrid Waddington Central) grabbed a personal season-high six rebounds.

Albany will again look for their first win of the year this Saturday, when they host Vermont Technical College at 1:00 PM.
