Women's Basketball Splits Weekend Pair, Earns First Win

| By:
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The ACPHS Women's Basketball team split a pair of games this weekend, and in the process earned their first win of the 2018-19 season. On Saturday, the Panthers fell to the Vermont Tech Knights 97-52 at home, but bested the King's College Lions 51-30 when they traveled to New York City on Sunday. After the weekend, Albany stands at 1-4 overall and 1-0 in the HVIAC. Being that this was the first game of the conference season for any of the teams, the Panthers now sit atop the league standings.

Against Vermont Tech, ACPHS put together one of their more complete offensive performances. Junior guard Emma Webster (Cadyville, NY / Saranac High) found her shooting stroke and rattled in six threes to help the Panthers to a season-high 52 points. Webster finished with 20 of those points, while sophomore forward Ava Misner (Meriden, CT / Platt) had quite the all-around game with nine points, nine assists and seven rebounds.

Despite this, Albany still was outmatched largely due to one player: Knights junior guard Jordanna Morris. Morris' final line, in no uncertain terms, was a sight to behold. 31 points, 21 rebounds, 14 assists, six steals and two blocks. She scored the game-high 31 on an efficient 14-of-25 shooting, while Vermont as a team shot just shy of 52% (44-85). Each one of their starters scored in double figures, and they finished with an astounding 70 points in the paint.

Sunday was a much different story for the Panthers previously struggling defense, as they held the Kings College Lions to just 31 points on 24 % shooting (13-54). Coupled with strong outings from junior forward Olivia Parameter (Waddington, NY / Madrid Waddington Central), 10 points and six rebounds, and freshman guard Clare Snell (Potsdam, NY / Parishville Hopkinton), career-high 20 points and seven steals, this was easily the Panthers best game of the young season. The contest was won primarily due to the second quarter, where ACPHS outscored King's 16-4 to take a 12-point lead into the half. The Lions would never get any closer than eight during any point of the second half, and Albany would have a happy bus ride back up north.

The Panthers will have a long break before they're back on the court again, waiting ten days to host SUNY Cobleskill on Wednesday, November 28th.
