Griffin Grabs 1,000th Rebound in Final Collegiate Game

Senior center Dannie Griffin (Patterson, NJ / Paramus Catholic), in what would turn out to be her final collegiate game, recorded her 1,000th career rebound in Albany's 55-43 loss at SUNY Cobleskill on Wednesday. Following the loss, the Panthers finish the season with an overall record of 7-12.

Albany started this one very well, ending the first quarter up 20-12 thanks in large part to three made three-pointers from sophomore Emma Webster  (Cadyville, NY / Saranac High). Griffin recorded four rebounds in that opening ten minutes. Needing just two more rebounds to reach the milestone, the star center got it done in the second quarter, snatching the landmark rebound at the 5:39 mark following a missed three-pointer by freshman Ava Misner (Meriden, CT). Griffin, having recorded her 1,000th point earlier this year, is now the only Panther, male or female, to record both 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in their career.

Griffin would try to make her final game a winning one, but it was not to be. ACPHS would only score 23 more points after their first-quarter outburst, which was not enough to best the Fighting Tigers. Griffin finished the game with 15 points, 16 rebounds, two blocks and two steals, leading the team in all four categories.

The Panthers had an outside chance at qualifying for the HVIAC Tournament, but were officially eliminated tonight after Pratt Institute defeated King's College to secure the fourth seed. ACPHS will return four of their five starters next year, save Griffin.
