ACPHS Men's Basketball faced an old foe on Wednesday, but they could not pull out the win, falling to the Pratt Institute Cannoneers by a score of 83-69. The Panthers are now 6-8 overall, while Pratt, formerly of the HVIAC, stands at 7-7 overall.
ACPHS scored early and often in the first half, parlaying strong efforts from senior guards
John Ambert and
Jordan Simmons into a 38-30 first half lead. That lead vanished by the 16-minute mark of the second half, as the Cannoneers went on a 12-3 run to get back into the game. Another 10-3 run stretched their advantage to 6 with 10:57 to play, and that was right around where their lead would stay throughout the rest of the contest.
Albany did not have an answer for Pratt's Patrick O'Gorman, who was easily the best player on the floor tonight. He finished with 31 points on 9-13 shooting, hitting five threes, several of which coming in spectacular fashion. The Cannoneers had three others finish in double figures as they were dominant in transition, outscoring ACP 20-6 on the fastbreak.
For Albany, Ambert led the way in both points and rebounds, finishing with 16 and eight respectively. Right behind him was senior guard Nate Beltran who scored 15. ACPHS will have to look to improve from the free-throw line next time out, as they shot just 50% (9-18) tonight in the 4-point loss.
ACPHS gets right back at it tomorrow, January 16th, when they host SUNY Orange at 7pm.
