Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Panthers Tie with Conference Opponent

Albany, NY - Panthers were able to come away with a tie against the Lynx of NHTI on Sunday afternoon. In this highly anticipated rematch of the YSCC Semis last year, the result ended up being a 2-2 tie.

With the rain starting to come down shortly after the game got underway, the Panthers were looking to get a win at home against another tough conference opponent. With this being the third game in five days for the Panthers, the team played with a lot of energy. They were able to control possession early, and often through a majority of the first half. However, even though the Panthers were able to take eight shots on goal, the Lynx were the first one to score in this game. The Lynx scored in the 17th minute taking an early 1-0 lead. The Panthers did have an amazing performance in goal from Junior goalie Mykala Brodzinski (Toms River, NJ) who got her hands on the Lynx shots on goal.

The second half saw the Panthers play with even more energy, and were holding a lot of the possession in the Lynx half of the field. They were able to tally a total of eighteen shots in the half but were just short of finding the back of the net. In the sixty first minute, Sophomore Ka'ena Kehano (Wailuku, HI) was able to find Senior Julia Roemer (Latham, NY) who was able to rip a beautiful shot in the bottom left corner past the keeper to tie the game at one. Less than three minutes later, Roemer returned the favor and found Kehano who was able to find the back of the net to give the Panthers a 2-1 lead. The Panthers held the lead until the Lynx found the back of the net again in the eighty fifth minute to tie the game again at two.

The Panthers had two opportunities in the final seconds to try and win the game, with one shot by Freshmen Mya Wright (Liverpool, NY) who hit the top of the crossbar with 30 seconds left. Senior Raegan Wendel (Clifton Park, NY) then got a steal and carried the ball towards the NHTI goal, but NHTI was able to make the stop in the final seconds to leave the game tied.

The Panthers will get a couple days off to rest up, heal up and look to prepare their matchup against Central Maine at home on Friday 9/29.
