Amherst, MA - Men's soccer traveled to Massachusetts on Tuesday afternoon to take on Hampshire College. It was the last road game of the regular season for the team.
The game had a slow start with a lot of back and forth between the two teams. It wasn't until 22 minutes into the game that the first goal was scored by Ricardo Pavanelli of Hampshire to take a 1-0 lead. After that, the Panthers flipped the switch becoming much more aggressive, taking a total of 27 shots throughout the game.
Hampshire's 1-0 lead didn't last long as Vincent DeVito (Saratoga Springs, NY) found Ian Rathbun (Queensbury, NY) to tie the game only 3 minutes after Hampshire's goal. The 1-1 tie would end up being the halftime score.
In the second half, the Panthers' aggression continued, but found little luck. Despite the excellent ball movement to set up those 27 shots, almost none of them found the back of the net. It wasn't until there was about 4 minutes left when Hampshire scored an own goal to finally give the Panthers a 2-1 lead. Riding that momentum, captain Sam Rowley (Queensbury, NY) set up captain Jay Carlson (Saratoga Springs, NY) to score his 6th goal of the season about a minute and a half later.
The Panthers emerged victorious by a score of 3-1, getting back to the .500 mark on the season. Their next game and last regular season game will be on Tuesday 10/22 at home against Paul Smith's College.
