Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Panthers Lose Nail-Biter

Albany, NY - The Panthers hosted SUNY ESF on Sunday afternoon, completing the weekend slate of games.

The first half of the game started with constant back and forth, with neither team seeing a lead of more than 3 points.  That was until Logan Yohe (Delmar, NY) drilled one of his three made threes, part of a 12-2 scoring run for the Panthers.  Riding the momentum, the Panthers went into the half with a 45-33 lead, led by Brett Richards (Kinderhook, NY) who had 15 points and 7 rebounds.

Jalon Munoz (Helotes, TX) scored 10 of his 12 points in the second half while Alex Carrillo (Akron, OH) finished with 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists, but the halftime break seemed to do the Panthers little good as their shooting percentage dropped and the team struggled to stop the impressive shooting from the Mighty Oaks.

The game would come down to the wire as the Oaks had an 8 point lead with 3 minutes left, but back-to-back threes by Munoz and another bucket by Richards would tie the game with about a minute and a half left.  However, the Oaks would then seal the deal at the free throw line to win the game 85-80, despite 25 points from Richards and 16 from Yohe.

It was a mighty comeback for the Mighty Oaks, something head coach Robert Coleman had some words about, "We need to get better... or we will get our [expletive] kicked in Maine"

The Panthers will have a week to make adjustments in preparation for a weekend trip to Maine where they will play SMCC on Saturday and Great Bay on Sunday.
