Despite having four players reach double-figures in points, the ACPHS women's basketball team dropped a 94-53 decision to Cedarville University on Wednesday afternoon. The game was the opening round of the Holiday Classic, hosted by Northwood University in West Palm Beach, Florida.
The first half saw both teams engaged in a close matchup as the Panthers received some early offense from
Alyson Johnson (Malone, NY, Franklin Academy) and
Alex Oaks (Oaks Corners, NY, Midlakes). With six minutes remaining in the first half,
Katie McCormack (Proctor, VT, Proctor) converted a layup to bring ACPHS within five points at 29-24. However, it was all Cedarville for the remainder of the half as they went on a 25-6 run to end the half and take a 54-30 lead into the break.
ACPHS could not stop the high-powered Yellow Jacket offense in the second half as Cedarville shot a staggering 13-25 from three-point range. Johnson finished with 11 points, while
Kelsey Johnson (Malone, NY, Franklin Academy) added 10 points and six assists, and
Kelly VanValkenburgh (Hunter, NY, Colonie) scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
