BOX SCORE

Freshmen Katie Benson (Clifton Park, NY / Shenendehowa) netted her first three collegiate goals in an 11-1 victory over Paul Smith's College. The Panthers have now achieved two wins out of two, while Paul Smith drops to 0-1 following their opening game loss.

Just like yesterday, the Panthers started early with a goal in the 5th minute. Freshman Erin Tersegno (Webster, NY / Webster Thomas) was released on the right wing by fellow classmate Cora Bruno (Margaretville, NY / Margaretville Central), and sent a well-timed pass to Rachael Spina (Wallingford, CT / Mark T. Sheehan) who finished lower-left for her first goal of the young season. The woman of the match's first appearance came when Benson found junior Katie Parsels (Rochester, NY / Gates Chili) all alone at the top of the box in the 7th minute. Parsels took one touch and put the Panthers up 2-0 by drilling a shot that dipped just underneath the bar. The pair would hook-up again in the 11th minute when Parsels found Benson all alone behind the defense with a spot-on through ball. Benson finished far-post and just like that, the Panthers were up 3-0. Following a great save by Amy Jagareski (South Glens Falls / South Glens Falls), during which she was required to charge out of goal in a one-on-one situation, the game settled down and the teams went into half at 3-0 ACPHS.

The second half started just as quickly as the first did, when Benson nabbed her second goal of the game in the 48th minute after some nice 1-2 play with Rachael Spina. The Panthers struck again a little over a minute later through Cora Bruno, when Benson provided a one-touch cross from the by-line right to Bruno's feet. Benson then completed her hat-trick in the 62nd minute when she was assisted by Bianca Mascitelli (Schenectady, NY / Schalmont). With the score 6-0 and the game long to bed, the Panthers would continue to pile on the goals. Sydney Rule (Ballston Spa, NY / Ballston Spa), Mascitelli, and Kayli Smith (Rome, NY / Rome Free Academy) each scored their first goals of the season in the eight-goal second half. Tersegno scored twice in this spell, to put her tally up to four now and to continue her torrid start to the campaign. The clean sheet was not in the cards though, as Nicole Landry scored for Paul Smith in the 88th minute for the final goal of the game.

With plenty of big stat lines in this one, Benson led them all with three goals and two assists. Tersegno finished with two goals and two assists, Spina with a goal and two assists, and Parsels and Mascitelli each added a goal and an assist. In total, the Panthers recorded 26 shots on goal, with Paul Smith keep Jenny McGinn saving 15 of them. She drops to 0-1. Jagareski made all four of her saves in the first half and sports a 2-0 record with a 0.00 goals against average.

Your Panthers return to ACPHS Athletic Field in just two days to face off against The Sage Colleges on Tuesday at 5pm (9/1). Paul Smith's College looks to bounce back against Clinton Community College on Wednesday at 7pm (9/2).
