ACPHS did not relinquish a point in the first quarter and scored the game's first 24, on their way to a 73-39 win over the Pratt Institute Cannoneers. The win moves the Panthers a game over .500 at 9-8, and continues their undefeated start in league play where they stand at 4-0. Pratt drops to 4-6 overall, 1-3 in the HVIAC.
The whole game's story comes in the opening 13 minutes, where the Panthers held the Cannoneers to a 0 for 18 start from the field. The Cannoneers did get going once they saw the first one fall, and actually outscored the Panthers 19-13 in the 2
nd period. ACPHS took a 34-19 advantage into the break and actually saw their lead dwindle all the way down to nine when Pratt scored the opening six points of the 3
rd quarter. But it was all too little too late for the Cannoneers, as ACPHS started forcing mistakes and put the game away with a 14-0 run. Albany only gave up eight points in the 4
th to closed this one out and give themselves their fourth win in five games.
The usual suspects were at it again for ACP, with junior
Dannie Griffin(Paramus, NJ / Paramus Catholic) the star of the game. Griffin filled the stat sheet with 20 points on an efficient 8 of 13 shooting, 22 rebounds, five assists, five steals, and three blocks. Freshman
Emma Webster (Cadyville, NY / Saranac High) continued her stellar opening campaign on Sunday, pouring in 22 points on 9 of 12 shooting and including two made threes. Senior
Rebecca Foote (Arcade, NY / Pioneer) rounded out the big performances from Albany with a line of 13 points, nine rebounds and six assists. The Panthers went 30 of 66 (45.5%) from the floor and outrebounded the Cannoneers 52-40.
The win keeps the Panthers in first place in the HVIAC, and they will look to extend their conference win streak when they head to Vaughn College on Saturday, February 4
th at 1pm. Pratt looks to get back on track with a non-league matchup against Sarah Lawrence College on Thursday, February 2
nd at 8:30pm.
