Albany, NY - On a very cold Fall day, the Panthers were the host of the YSCC play-in game against University of Maine at Augusta. Before warmups, the Panthers got to celebrate their dedicated seniors.
Sunday morning the Panthers got to celebrate the five seniors that have helped make an impact for the team the last couple of years. The five seniors celebrated this year were
Shannon Donnelly (Bethlehem, NY),
Maggie Gilligan (Cohoes, NY),
Jasmine Pyke (Akwesasne, NY),
Julia Roemer (Latham, NY), and
Emily Sager (Poughquag, NY). They met with their families for a couple of pictures as they were celebrated. Donnelly will be leaving with 29 career goals, and 28 career assists which puts her tied for sixth in career goals and third in career assists. Gilligan will be leaving with 4 career shots, but also has made a big impact for the Panthers on the defensive line. Pyke will be leaving with two career assists but another player who's presence on the defensive line will be missed. Roemer will be leaving with 73 career goals, and 18 career assists which puts her third in career goals, and sixth in assists. Sager will be leaving with 3 career goals and 4 career assists.
The game kicked off with the Panthers pushing the pace early.
Julia Roemer started the game off for the Panthers scoring in the first minute to put the Panthers ahead 1-0. The goal was assisted by Izzy Mancini (Galway, NY). In the eleventh minute Izzy Mancini was set up to take a corner kick, and was able to get the ball into the back of the net off the corner. A couple minutes later,
Shannon Donnelly was able to increase the lead to three for the Panthers on another goal. The next two goals were assisted by
Ka'ena Kehano (Wailuku, HI) ten minutes apart with the goal scorers being
Emily Sager, and
Mya Wright (Liverpool, NY). The Panthers were able to find themselves up 5-0 at the half of this play-in game.
The second half saw the Panthers continue to push the pace and rack up the shots.
Julia Roemer was able to get another goal on the day off a beautiful assist from
Raegan Wendel (Clifton Park, NY). The Panthers would then get two of their last goals from Kehano, with one of those goals being asissted by
Mckayla Mudge (Acra, NY). The Panthers won the game 7-0, and outshot the Moose 46-0. The defense made sure the ball didn't get past their line, and was able to help the Panthers secure the shutout.
The Panthers will take some time to rest, recover, but also get ready for the YSCC Semifinal matchup in Auburn, ME against Paul Smith's College on Saturday 10/28.
