Albany, NY - In a highly anticipated rematch of last years USCAA D.II National Championship, the Panthers took on the Seawolves of Southern Maine. The result was not what the Panthers but the result ended in a draw.
The Panthers were ready to take on the Seawolves in a matchup from the National Championship last Fall. They knew the Seawolves would come out and make life difficult for the Panthers. This game was physical from the start given the history in the matchup, where a total of sixteen fouls were committed through the entirety of the game. The Panthers had opportunities early, but unfortunately the Seawolves kept getting in the way on the early chances. It ended up being the Seawolves who struck first on a goal in the 16th minute. The Panthers continued to give themselves opportunities when they found the back of the net. The goal came off a cross from Freshman
Emily Silva (Clifton Park, NY) that found the foot of
Julia Roemer (Latham, NY) to tie the game at 1.
The second half saw both sides continue to control possession and switch back and forth on opportunities to find a go ahead goal. The Panthers were able to take good chances, but the Seawolves continued to get in the way. No one was able to find the net for the go ahead goal, and as the horn sounded the scoreboard read 1-1 to result in a tie.
The Panthers will have the next two days to work, and get ready for a home matchup against SUNY Cobleskill on Wednesday at 6PM.
