Concord, NH - The Panthers traveled to New Hampshire on Saturday to play in their last doubleheader before the winter break. Fresh off wins from Thursday, both teams hoped to ride their momentum to another victory.
The women tipped off first at 1pm and in a game that started slowly for the Panthers. They found themselves down by 7 points after the first, but then things started to heat up for freshman Samantha Howland (Whitehall, NY) who scored a dozen points in the second quarter alone to cut the halftime deficit to just 2 points.
The third quarter was Emma Russell (Brushton, NY) and Adriana Yuret's (Mayfield, NY) turn to cook as they outscored the Lynx themselves 15-12 in the third quarter. Riding her hot hand, Russell put up 9 more points in the fourth to finish the game with 23 points. Howland set career highs of 20 points and 16 rebounds to go along with 3 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks while Isabella Mancini (Galway, NY) led the team with 5 assists off the bench.
The second half dominance was too much for the Lynx to handle as the Panthers win their second consecutive game, this time by a score of 64-53. Their next game isn't until after the winter break when they'll play Vermont State University Randolph at home on January 15th.
As for the men, their game tipped off shortly after the women's game finished, and similarly to the previous game, the Panthers had a bit of a slow start. The Lynx hit their first few shots to see an early lead, but their lead didn't last long as the Panthers went on a 40-18 scoring run. Led by Brett Richards (Kinderhook, NY) who had a first half double-double with 18 points (on 9/11 shooting) and 11 rebounds, the Panthers saw a 16 point lead at half.
Early in the second half the Panthers pushed their lead up to 20 points led by Jalon Munoz who would finish the game with 22 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists while Michael Leak (Delanson, NY) added 9 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists. The Lynx would eventually cut the lead to single digits, but the Panthers offense was too much for them to handle in the end, despite only hitting 2 three pointers all game as they would go on to win 77-64.
The men's team will play one more game tomorrow afternoon at our next door neighbor Russell Sage College at 1pm.
