Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Beats Broncos

Albany, NY - The women's basketball team hosted SUNY Delhi on Tuesday evening in an exhilarating game.

The game tipped off at 5:30pm and right from the tip it was a high intensity game. Sophomore Samantha Howland (Whitehall, NY) dropped 10 points in the first quarter alone while Adora Cho (Great Neck, NY) scored 5 to help give the Panthers a 23-20 lead in their highest scoring opening quarter yet.

The second quarter was even as both teams scored exactly 16 points. Howland led the way again with another 5 while Nadia Osmani (Cohoes, NY) had 4 in the quarter.  They held the Broncos to only 2 made buckets in the period, but they scored a majority of their points at the free throw line to keep the Panthers halftime lead to 3 points.

In the third, the Broncos changed their defensive scheme and held the Panthers to only 25% from the field while they found a groove offensively and outscored the Panthers 13-8 to give themselves a 2 point lead going into the fourth.

In the fourth, the Panthers flipped the script and held the Broncos to only two made baskets again while they outscored them 14-7 to secure a 61-56 victory.  Howland finished with a team high 17 points and 9 rebounds while Cho and Osmani combined for 25 points. The team finished with 15 steals, led by Alexis McCarthy (Green Island, NY) who had 5.

The Panthers move to 6-1 on the year and will play again this weekend when they head up to Maine to take on the UMA Moose.
