Albany, NY - The women's volleyball team opened their season at home against the Paul Smith's Bobcats in a game that went down to the wire.
With a couple new players, the Panthers came out roaring from the beginning. New additions Emily Corbin (Millbrook, NY) and freshman Jenna Reinhard (Wingdale, NY) both had strong debuts as Corbin had 7 kills while Reinhard led the team in digs. The Panthers went on to win the first set 25 - 23. Riding their momentum, the Panthers then won the second set by a score of 25 - 16 behind Morgan Bohlke (Glenville, NY) who finished the game with a team high 21 kills.
After the second set, the Bobcats started gaining momentum as they won the third set by a score of 25 - 17. Kathryn Braun (Guilderland, NY), who finished with a team high 21 assists, led the Panthers in a close game in the fourth set. Going barely past the 25 point mark, the Bobcats ultimately won a nail biter by a score of 26 - 24.
In the fifth set, the Bobcats started strong, building a 4-point lead right off the bat. After that, it was a back and forth set with Paul Smith's, ultimately winning the set 15 - 12 to win the game.
The Panthers will have about a week off to prepare for a trip to New Hampshire next weekend where they will play 3 games over the course of Saturday and Sunday.
